CYCLING HISTORICAL ROUTE ”ĆIRO”

( Trebinje-Jazina)

Narrow gauge railway with a steam locomotive on the route Trebinje-Bileća was opened to traffic on November 20, 1931 , and abolished on June 1, 1976. People called these railways „štreke“ , and the recognizable soot steam locomotive was nicknamed ”Ćiro“, which has remained until today. Today, only nostalgic memories remain of the trains, but that is why the former railway on the route Trebinje-Jazina was reconstructed into an interesting cycling-hiking path 16 kilometers long.

You have a real adventure ahead of you, because the historical tour ”Ćiro” is very picturesque - most of it passes by the river Trebišnjica and the lakes formed on it after the construction of the Grančarevo dam. Along the way you can see many interesting things - national monuments Arslanagić bridge and the medieval town Mičevac, beautiful natural landscapes belonging to the protected Nature Park Orjen, then the Mlinica cave where there is a strong source of mountain water, vineyards on sunny slopes and at the end of the trail pearl river Sušica, crystal pure emerald colored water in which you can refresh and swim.

Ćiro’s route is mostly macadam that is a trademark of rugged Herzegovina. It is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, rich in aromatic herbs whose intoxicating scents you will absorb while riding with a smile or walking towards new and unexpected attractions.

Departure time: 8 AM (Public parking near Trebinje Police Station)
Short description of the tour: Our tour starts in Trebinje, at Public parking near Trebinje Police Station. We ride along the river to the famous Arslanagić bridge, then over the railway bridge and along river Trebišnjica to the medieval Old Town of Mičevac, where we have a short break. Then we ride the macadam path surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Orjen Nature Park to the Mlinica cave. We will visit this unique cave from which the river springs. In front of us is a path through the rural ambience of the village of Grancarevo, with a beautiful view of Lastvansko lake. We cross a large railway bridge and tunnel and shortly after Ušće which is famous about royal vineyards we reach the Jazina picnic area. We take a long break here (lunch optional), and you will have the opportunity to swim in the crystal clear river Sušica. After that we return to Trebinje.

ARRANGEMENT INCLUDES:
- Fully-equipped and experienced English speaking mountain bike guides
- Rental of mountain bike (additional fee for electric bicycle is 20 eur)

ARRANGEMENT DOES NOT INCLUDE :
- Lunch (on request at Restaurant Jazina Club),
- Helmets, water bottles,
- Optional tipping to leader/guide and local staff,
- Souvenirs and items of a personal nature (sodas, alcoholic beverages, etc.)

WHAT YOU NEED:
Bring water, sunglasses, swiming suit, sunscreen with protection factor, spare clothes.

Trebinje has 260+ sunny days a year. Still, organizer reserves the right to cancel the trip without prior notice due to bad weather conditions.
